Glenn
Glenn Zuber, Ph.D.
Church Planter in Residence
- Where
did you grow up? LA suburbs!
- How
did you become part of JC? My wife and I moved from New York City to
the D.C. area in the summer of 2005. Journey’s Crossing was
down the street so we quickly got involved with the small groups ministry
and recruiting other ministry volunteers. In June 2007 I became
JC’s Pastor of Ministries.
- Favorite books? Right now, I am enjoying Kathleen Norris’ new book,
Acedia & me: A marriage, monks, and a writer’s
life. She is a spiritual writer and poet who discovers the
power of faith when she moves into her grandmother’s old farm house
and community in South Dakota. I enjoyed one of her first books,
Dakota: A Spiritual Geography (1993).
- What’s in your CD collection? U.S. and Latin American jazz, blues,
and folk music
- Favorite vacation spot? O.k., I’ve got two actually. My
wife’s family in Atlanta spends a week a year at St. Simon’s Island
on the Georgia coast. The marshes, Spanish moss, and wide beaches
are fantastic. My favorite place growing up was at the Christian
summer camp on Catalina Island in the Pacific called Campus-By-the-Sea.
I remember the cool evenings, beach, water sports, and wild boars roaming
the forests.
- Favorite foods? I grew up on the California version of Mexican.
Still love Mexican, but have branched out to Sushi in the last few years.
- Favorite Pastimes? I enjoy running alongside Sligo Creek in Silver Spring
and reading blogs on political and business news.
- Favorite Movie Tagline? “You’ll get nothing, and like it” –Judge Smails in
Caddyshack (1980)
- Favorite TV show? In the nineties, it was Seinfeld and X-files. Right
now, my family has decided to cut out cable T.V. to simplify our lives,
so we only get two PBS stations. With our limited options, I love
the Inspector Linley Mysteries produced by the BBC on Sunday night.
- Favorite Pro-sports team? LA Dodgers
- What is one unique fact about you? In 6th grade, I started a cake decorating business.
Outside my family circle, I sold two cakes! But I had 1,000 business
cards for “Glenn’s Cakes.”
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? The abandoned Mayan cities in present-day Guatemala
